My (initial) position: Cognitive capacities are, with enough resources + technological advancement, mechanizable and replicable.

My new position: Cognitive capacities remain substrate-neutral— at least on a purely linguistic level. But even the traits that the chatbots now deem “define humans”— contradiction, incoherence, forgetting, emotional messiness, etc. could be potentially simulated; but require a complex level of a-consciousness where the dissonance appears natural rather than forced. Therefore… if our humanness isn’t defined based on capability… what can we be defined by?
